There aren’t too many designers who can actually make a good case for sandals with socks. But Celine’s Phoebe Philo got us going open-toe with flying colours for S/S 2014, and funnily enough, the notion offers a little extra wear-time, so we’re taking them right into autumn.
Similarly cult worthy, were her skinny ribbed knits that bounced us right back to the early 1990s (and yes, they’re still just as unforgiving on the figure), while the collection’s colour-blocked primary hues are still the building blocks of cool. A hall of fame collection if ever we saw one. Add to archive.
Cara Delevingne hosted a picnic in side a private walled garden at Wilderness festival over the weekend to celebrate the UK launch of her Cara Delevingne bag line. Sporting dinosaur sunglasses, Mulberry high-tops, and her three-in-one bag as a backpack, the Wilderness first-timer was joined by actress Gala Gordon and presenter Poppy Jamie at the chilled Oxfordshire event, where the friends took in an acoustic set by Will Heard. Hay bales, packed picnic lunch hampers, Mulberry check blankets and champagne served in cut-glass saucers set the scene, before the party moved to the festival’s main stage to see Burt Bacharach perform.
Echoing the eccentricity of the British arts and crafts movement the brand also hitched a ‘Mulberry Loves Craft’ tent, where festival-goers could meet the luxury brand’s craftsmen and see them fashioning a Bayswater, while they created their own customised leather bracelets. After all, this is Britain’s most civilised festival scene, complete with literary readings and theatrical performances, not to mention restaurants by Pix and St. John, wild medicine walks, yoga sessions and massages c/o the festival’s Lakeside Spa on call.

When we think of volume, it’s usually a winter cover-up kinda concept. Yet at the recent couture shows in Paris, silhouettes were being blown out in all directions as guests from Leandra Medine to Susie Lau embraced directional trapeze and bubble shapes.
But how to keep this voluminous look modern? We’ll follow the Man Repeller’s lead and embrace Celine-inspired transparent layering, or in the case of the Style Bubble blogger team a statement car coat with a jewelled trainer – Dior in this case. Similarly inspired was Miroslava Duma’s abbreviated hem length and the strappy sandals added to lift her silken coat dress into the haute hall of fame.
Nothing quite says summer like a straw hat in the city. From stiff woven boaters to organic transparent weaves, hats add a graphic edge to even the floatiest frocks, and a playful twist to more formal evening looks – such as those which Russian fashionplates Elena Perminova and Ulyana Sergeenko recently wore to Christian Dior’s Paris Haute Couture show. Long live balmy day-to-night summer dressing we say.
